A Prayer For Unspoken Weakness
A PRAYER FOR UNSPOKEN WEAKNESS
“Their prayer, if offered in faith, will heal him, for the Lord will make him well; and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him.” - James 5:15 (TLB)
Heavenly Father, we all have weaknesses in life. Some are physical and some are not. Some are temporary, while others, like the Apostle Paul’s thorn in the flesh, are not (2 Corinthians 12:7). We know that some things happen in life as a result of poor choices, but Your Word also says, “He makes his sun rise on people whether they are good or evil. He lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust.” - Matthew 5:45. Sometimes it is just our turn - both good and bad happen to all of us.
Lord, I bring my friend before You. You know precisely what they are struggling with. You knit them together in their mother’s womb (Ps 139:19) and they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps 139:14). We ask for healing by the stripes of Jesus (Is 53:5) - spirit, soul and body, mind, will and emotions. Your Word says that nothing is too difficult for You (Gen 18:14). We believe that, because, Father, You are not a man that You should lie (Num 23:19). We know that You work all things together for the good for those who love You and are called according to Your purposes (Rom 8:28).
We ask, that as they wait for their answer, whether it be seconds, hours or longer, that You would reveal to them how this affliction can be used for Your glory. Give them Your perspective of their circumstances, that they would dig deep into Your Word and enter into Your presence to discover the gift hidden in every trial. May this trial not pass leaving them empty-handed, but that it might pass with their having gleaned a truth, a tool and a testimony of Your faithfulness in a challenging season. As their perspective changes and they gain the mind of Christ, we pray that they would discard the title of victim, to take hold of the truth, that in every trial there is a good to be had if they seek You and search for it. It is in holding fast to that promise that they can understand the encouragement of James 1:2 that says, “Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” - James 1:2-4 MSG
Lord, the reality is that even those without a belief in You are often found with a, “Thank God” upon their lips when things turn in their favor, but it takes a measure of faith and belief in Your goodness to thank You in advance for Your answer. Though they may not understand, help them to trust Your sovereignty to work all things for their longterm good. Empower them, even now, strengthen their faith to begin praising You for Your goodness and for Your answer - both “yes” or “no.”
Turn their weakness for Your glory, Lord. Show them the treasure buried in their trial, and bless them with joy as they trust You, praise You and pursue Your presence, even in their weakness. In Jesus Name ❤️
Dear friend, are you struggling with a weakness or area of sickness in your life? While it may not be apparent on the surface, if you ask the Father, He can show You the blessing in your trial. You might never have full understanding about the things you go through while here on this planet. But if you respond in trust, when you stand before Him and all is revealed, you will see that it will have been worth it all. 💡
