A Prayer For The Discouraged

A PRAYER FOR THE DISCOURAGED

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin.” – Hebrews 4:15

Heavenly Father, I lift Your precious child who is reading this before You. As always, learning something new about You is rich and meaningful. But there are times when they are tired and weary and just want to cry. Sometimes it feels like they have struggled in this same area a thousand times and the path they are on seems endless. They do what they know to do to keep going, but they feel the hot breath of discouragement bearing down on the back of their neck. They are not sure what will happen first, whether their heart will beat out of their chest or their legs will collapse from exhaustion.  But they feel that they can’t go on much longer without help from You.

Father, Jesus lived on the Earth, just like we do. In His 33 years He experienced every emotion that we do. He faced every temptation.  On the cross who took on our shame and every pain, grief and disease. Lord, You know full well the suffering of Your child.

Send Your Holy Spirit to comfort them!  Like a mighty, rushing wind, (Acts 2:2) come in and breathe fresh breath into their parched lungs. Send the fire of Your Spirit to reignite the fading embers of their faith and hope. Draw their eyes away from their circumstances to engage with Your eyes (1 Chron 16:11) and recognize the depth of Your love, the tenderness of Your compassion and the gentleness of your touch.  Speak words of encouragement and blessing over their life. Wipe away their tears (Rev 21:4). Wash them clean (1 John 1:7) and bind up their wounds (Ps 147:3). Renew their mind (Rom 12:2) with the truth of Your Word.

By the stripes of Jesus bring healing to their brokenness (Is 53:5). Expose the punishing lies of the enemy that they have accepted as truth, and realign their beliefs with the inerrant, rightly-divided truth of the Word of God. Replace man’s flawed interpretation with authentic truth, straight from Your heart and mind to their situation.  Bring rest for their weariness, Father. And give them rest (Matt 11:28).

Thank You that You love them with an everlasting love (Jer 31:3) that never waivers or fades (Ps 136). They did not earn it and it can never be taken away (Rom 8:38). Put Your hand of blessing upon them, Lord. And fill them with the Bread of Life (Jn 6:35).  Fill them with more of Jesus. In Jesus Name ❤️
