The Early Bird & The Molehill of Three Cents

THE EARLY BIRD & THE MOLEHILL OF THREE CENTS

“I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” – Isaiah 41:13

When my husband got up this morning at 4:00 am, I flipped on the TV to check the news. Up came an ominous black screen with white writing, cheerfully explaining that if I wanted to watch TV I could simply pay my cable bill.

Long story short, our cable bill is on autopay.  Each month the bill is being paid on time, for the entire amount, minus three cents.

This morning I just wanted to cry. I know it is ridiculous to want to cry over a three cents credit card charge, but it isn’t the amount.  It’s the hassle, frustration and monthly reassurances that the issue has been fixed, to only to be disappointed when it happens again.

It wasn’t just the cable bill this morning.  It is a million tiny things—the compounded weight of a multitude of molehills that joined to feel like a mountain.

Do you ever have days like that—days where you feel like if you come across one more nagging problem you are going to curl up in the corner in a fetal position?

Lying in the dark in the faint glow of the taunting TV screen, I began to hear a solitary early bird chirping outside the window.  Within five minutes, he had awoken his entire birdie neighborhood, who decided to throw a block party.

Suddenly there was a riot of birds singing. The braying of the donkey next door hinted that he heard a good joke and the clanging of cowbells across the street added to the festivities.  All that was missing were the bags of Doritos and red Solo cups.

One single bird changed everyone’s mood.  His decision to offer joyful morning praise, while all around him there was yet darkness, was contagious.

Not only did he lift the mood of his neighbors, but also mine. His cheerfulness in the darkness, cracked open a door that allowed hopeful light to come streaming in. Scripture came to mind.

“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:2.

“‘...LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You...” – 2 Chronicles 14:11

“Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.” – Psalm 63:7

“For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” – Isaiah 41:13

“Energize the limp hands, strengthen the rubbery knees. Tell fearful souls, ‘Courage! Take heart! GOD is here, right here, on his way to put things right And redress all wrongs. He’s on his way! He’ll save you!’” – Isaiah‬ ‭35:3-4‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Lord, when we come to the end of our strength, patience or resources, help us to come to the beginning of You.  In our hands we may not hold all of the pieces, but our partner is the LORD!  You carry it all, so our burden can be light.

You never intended for us to tackle the struggles of life alone. You won’t abandon us. You will be our help. Help us to shift our trust from our own competence and strength back to You, where it belongs.

Teach us to be little birds that sing in the darkness, awakening the hope of others.  Inspire us to sing in welcome of a new day, even before the first morning light.

Remind us of Your truth, so we can disassemble unmanageable mountains back into manageable molehills.

And help us to take Your hand and walk fearlessly, encouraged that we never walk alone.  We walk with God!  In Jesus’ Name ❤️

Beloved, the Lord’s help is there for the asking, but He won’t pry it out of our hands.  We need to release it to Him. 💡
