Satisfaction

SATISFACTION

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10

God is so good to have blessed us with five senses with which to perceive and enjoy the world.

He could have given us eyes that could merely see light and dark, but, instead, our eyes are made to perceive thousands of beautiful colors.  Food could have been made to be tasteless, but He chose to offer pleasure, even in what nourishes and fuels our bodies.

Each of our five senses has the capability of producing pleasure, because they were designed by our magnificent God to make life on the Earth a joy.

God’s presence IS the source of joy, and the richness of His pleasure is found in our obedience.  It is when our focus shifts away from pursuing Him to, instead, pursuing pleasure apart from Him, that we encounter danger.  A snare is set in the pursuit of pleasure outside the bounds of that relationship. Once exceeded, our senses can become like gods that demand to be appeased. Pursuit of pleasure apart from His presence, leads to being taken captive by our cravings.

Mick Jagger said it well.  Apart from God, “I can’t get no satisfaction.”

Father, Your Word says,

“‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.” – Zechariah 4:6

We can’t do this without You! We renounce those things we have sought instead of Your pleasure.  What we have tried to capture has, instead, captured us.  There is no lasting satisfaction apart from You!

Father, in Your mercy, forgive us and remove the scales from our eyes, that we will see clearly. Rescue us from what promised peace and joy, but, instead, brought death. Remove the hunger for what hurts us. We need discernment to realize the danger of temptation and the wisdom and strength to resist it.

Good Shepherd, lead us into the joy and blessing of Your presence.  Anoint our heads with the oil of Your peace. Lord, make us hungry for You.  Then, by Your hand feed us until we are satisfied.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
