A Step of Faith

A STEP OF FAITH

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.” - Exodus 14:22 ESV

I have always pictured the children of Israel triumphantly marching across the parted waters, joyfully singing God’s praises at the miraculousness of their deliverance.  It finally dawned on me this morning, that the only ones to experience joy at the time of the crossing were those who wholeheartedly believed that God would keep the waters parted until they safely reached the other side.  To those with even a shred of doubt, it would have been terrifying.

Both those with much faith and those with little faith crossed on the exact same path that day, but it was their level of faith in each step that determined if the experience was one of joy or horror.

God parts the waters in our lives all the time.  And the same emotions experienced  by those crossing the Red Sea are the emotions we experience, based on our level of faith.  The greater our faith, the greater our peace.  The greater our doubt, the greater our terror.

Are you in need of greater faith, beloved?  Let’s bring it to the Lord.

Father, You regularly save us from impossible circumstances.  For the impossible struggles we are currently facing, we ask for miracles.  And as our miracles begin to appear, may our faith rise up to drown our fears.  Strengthen our faith to trust that You have not parted the waves to lure us to a drowning death, but Your faithful hand will hold back the waves, to give us safe crossing.

Reassure us of Your love.  Give us a gift of faith, to leave doubt behind.  With each step of the crossing, may our voices will be raised in expectant, trusting praise, as we rest in Your faithfulness to see us through the waters.  Go before us, Lord!  Part the waters!  And may we joyfully step into our miracles.   In Jesus’ Name ❤️
