The Enemy Among Pawns

Good morning, my friend!  Good morning, Father!

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” - Ephesians 6:12

Father, our tendency is to label the person who lied about us, stepped on us on their way up the corporate ladder, or has become our proverbial “thorn in the flesh,” as our “enemy”.  Your Word reminds us that those people are merely pawns for our true enemy.  The enemy hides behind his pawns, hoping we won’t recognize him, and will attack them instead. When we do, he remains unscathed and can continue to kill, steal and destroy.  Our enemy isn’t the guy who humiliated us in a meeting or who makes snarky comments behind our back - it isn’t our uncaring spouse, the intrusive in-laws, annoying relative or lazy co-worker.  Our enemy is the devil and the powers of darkness.  The sooner we recognize who our true enemy is, the more effective we will be at countering the attacks.

Father, I lift my friend.  Give them eyes to be able to see their real enemy hidden among the pawns.  May they use the truth of the Word of God as a weapon against the powers of darkness.  Help them to forgive the pawns, even those who have willingly partnered with the enemy to try to hurt them, that not one microsecond of time would be wasted fighting anyone, but the real enemy.  Father, remind them this morning to put on the whole armor of God and to clothes themselves in the righteousness of Christ and a garment of praise.  Protect them from the enemy’s attacks and help them to respond only against their real enemy, and only by prayer, praise, obedience to Your instruction and the truth of the Word of God.  With this shift of focus, may they make inroads and take back territory for the Kingdom.  Strengthen them to not attempt to avenge themselves, but to leave vengeance where it belongs. “‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” - Romans 12:19. Lord, help them to remember who their real enemy is, and let You deal with the pawns.  In Jesus Name ❤️
