Door Posts

Good morning, my friend!  Good morning, Father!

“Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.” - Exodus 12:7

Father, something has been weighing on my heart the past few days - so much that it keeps bobbing to the surface of my mind.  Recently, I saw a photograph of a yellow road sign with an arrow indicating that there was a sharp right turn ahead.  The sign was riddled with holes from having been shot at by several different calibers of bullet.  Beneath it was a caption that read, “Keep right and get shot.”  Thinly-veiled threats of violence, cloaked as clever humor, were attempting to intimidate and silence those of differing opinion.

You remind me of the children of Israel who were told to put the blood of a perfect, sacrificial lamb on the outside of their doorposts and lintel, as a public sign and declaration of their faith that You would triumph over the Egyptians and safely deliver them from captivity.  It required not only faith, but great courage, because that type of sacrifice could have been punishable by stoning (Ex 8:26). The sacrifice and placement of the the blood on the outside of their homes foreshadowed the covering of the blood of Jesus, our sacrificial lamb that spares us from judgment.  It was in that public declaration of their faith by the application of blood, that each household was passed over and saved.

Today we find ourselves facing threats and criticism for our faith, Lord.  The powers of darkness seek to silence Your voice that calls out with hope to a lost generation.  Father, I lift my friend.  Help them to not draw silent, succumbing to threats and intimidation.  Strengthen them to stand for the light of righteousness in a dark season.  May they “...not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” - Matthew 10:28a.  Fortify their resolve that says, “in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” - Psalm 56:11.  Help them to openly declare their faith.  Empower them to remain above reproach, to answer harsh words with grace, mercy and the perfectly timed and seasoned Word of God, relying on Your Spirit and not their flesh.  Breathe courage into their souls that they would not hide the blood behind closed doors, but to bravely paint it on the doorposts of their hearts and their homes, that they, and everyone in their household, might be saved.  Lord, overshadow them with divine protection and peace as they do.  May their faith-filled declarations save them from the harm, loss and destruction that surround them.  May they be spared when so many around them are not.

Lord, as they awaken to this, the second day of a new year, may the fresh basket of mercy on their doorstep this morning be accompanied by outpourings of discernment, wisdom, courage, boldness and divine protection.  I pray this blessing over them, that as the world becomes darker, they may shine Your light more brightly, drawing those in the darkness to the safety and salvation that lie beyond the doorposts covered with blood.  Strengthen them and protect them in the year ahead.  Teach them to keep their lamps trimmed with oil.  I pray their barns will be filled to overflowing and their vats brimming with new wine (Pro 3:10).  And may all who seek refuge under their roof find salvation by the blood of the Lamb.  In Jesus Name ❤️
