Waiting

Good morning, my friend!  Good morning, Father!

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” - Psalm 27:13-14

Lord, we are not good at waiting - whether it is at the DMV, an amusement park or for an answer to prayer.  We are like infants who, at the first pang of hunger, cry out and don’t stop crying until their needs are met.  Infants on their own will grab whatever they can reach and put it in their mouths, trying to satisfy their hunger, even if the thing they put in their mouth has no capacity to satisfy them and may even harm them.

You gave Abraham and Sarah the promise of a son.  The wait for fulfillment of the promise was a long one, and they decided to take matters into their own hands.  To this day, we still bear consequences of their unwillingness to wait (Gen 16).  So it is with us all, Lord.  We hate waiting.  Our clever minds conjure up earthly solutions to problems requiring heavenly intervention.  The end result is almost inevitably a bigger mess than we started out with.

Father, I lift my friend and the things they are waiting for.  Give them grace in the waiting and even more grace for the things to which You, in Your wisdom and kindness, have said, “No.”  Bolster their self control to not manipulate circumstances to get their way.  I pray that they would not allow impatience to steal from them, leaving them with regret and less than Your best, and serving as a cautionary tale to others about what not to do.  Dear Lord, my heart aches with a deep longing for them to be found faithful and patient in this season of waiting.  Help them to not fall prey to the lies of the enemy that tell them that “good” is good enough.  May they not settle for anything, but Your best for them!  Empower them to wait for Your perfect, untarnished answer - the answer covered with the fingerprints of God and not that of man. Bless them with the necessary strength and courage to endure with their faith and attitude intact, that they will see Your answer and goodness this side of Heaven!  In Jesus Name ❤️
