Drowning in Distraction

Good morning, my friend!  Good morning, Father!

““And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”” - Matthew 14:28-31 (NKJV)

Lord, recently I find myself distracted by so many things.  I will start to tackle one thing, but then get distracted by a string of other things of lesser importance.  At the end of the day, I may have accomplished a good number of things, but those of greatest importance remain on the table, untouched and incomplete.

Father, we don’t want our limited time here on Earth to be frittered away on trifling matters, while the things of greatest value lie undisturbed and gathering dust.  Being distracted from You is dangerous.  We don’t want to lose sight of You, the captain of our soul*, or to forget, even for a moment, our mission or purpose.  When we lose sight of You, our vision is captured by the surging waves about us, the ominous skies and fierce winds, and our faith becomes capsized by paralyzing fear, anxiety and doubt.  We begin to drown.

Father, I lift my friend before You.  I ask for wisdom and focus for the day ahead, so they will make the most of the opportunities they are afforded in these evil days. (Eph 5:15-16).  Teach them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith (Heb 12:2), and to set their affection on things above, not on earthly things (Col 3:1-2).  Lord, tune their ears to hear Your still small voice, that the voices of the world would not distract them from hearing and obeying You.  May not one plan or treasure that You have set for them remain incomplete or unclaimed.  At the end of their days, I pray there will be check marks next to every item on their godly assignment and that they hear a “well done” from Your lips.  Bless them with solid focus on You.  Confound the plans of the enemy to distract them, that they will turn a deaf ear to frivolousness, set their eyes on You and have the faith to step out of the boat to walk with You on the water.  In Jesus Name ❤️

Dear friend, are you distracted and finding your faith becoming shaky and your effectiveness in decline?  Have you lost sight of the Lord and somehow gotten lost in busyness?  You’re not alone!  Take time to get away, alone with the Lord, even if for just a minute or two.  Reach up.  Ask Him to reach down to where you have become submerged, to refocus your eyes and to pull you out of the depths to walk with Him.  💡
