Our Daily Bread

“Give us this day our daily bread.” - Matthew 6:11 KJV

Father, I never really noticed it before today, but Jesus’ example of a prayer for provision asked for provision for only the day at hand.  Like the provision of manna in the desert, relying upon You to provide each and every day for your provision for us goes against our nature.  We would prefer to squirrel away a large quantity and then rely on our stored provisions to meet our needs instead of putting our daily reliance upon You.

Father, I lift myself and the precious one reading this before You.  Lord, today we ask for eyes to see the cracks in our spiritual foundations, the unsecured doors of our hearts and drafty windows of our morals and values.  Show us the defects of our heart and fragility of faith that lead to a determination to rely on our works and self-sufficiency.  Forgive our desire to accumulate that stems from lack of faith.  Reveal any underlying, faithless hoarding of the heart, that attempts to dress up to masquerade as wisdom and responsible saving.  Help us Lord.  While it is wise to save, it isn’t wise to save at the exclusion of trusting You implicitly.  We want to become more like You, but the temptations and standards of this world tend to seep in where our boundaries have grown slack from constant challenge and daily exposure.  Expose standards that may have dropped, once firmly held beliefs that we unwisely compromised and once strong faith and patience that have deteriorated to doubt and grumbling.

We don’t want anything to hold us back in our spiritual growth or in our intimacy with You.  Convict us of the spiritual affairs of the heart - the flirtatious relationships we have indulged in secret with false gods that promise fulfillment.  Implant us with a dissatisfaction with what has been - the spiritual status quo that begets complacency.  Bless us with a hunger for more of You.  We decide again today that we will have no other gods before You (Ex 20:2) and that we will love You not only in our minds, but also with our heart, soul and every ounce of our strength (Luke 10:27).  So, we come to this.  For our needs, Father, we ask of You as Jesus did, to give us this day our daily bread.  And we choose to trust You to be faithful for every bit of the rest.  In Jesus Name ❤️

Dear friend, are you struggling to trust Him to meet your needs?  He is faithful to provide for the needs of the birds of the air.  He provides food for them in every season and dresses them in brilliant raiment of color. If He cares for the needs of these little creatures that are here one day and gone the next, won’t He also be faithful to care for you?  You are far more precious than a sparrow.  Trust Him.  💡
