Crushed Beneath the Weight of Glory
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” - Philippians 4:13.
Lord, we have read this verse so many times. We believe it to be true, but still face regular disappointment with ourselves with the disparity between the truth of Your Word and what we see played out in our lives. We see a measure of victory, but are in full agreement with Paul who said, “I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” - Romans 7:15 NLT.
I lift my precious friend before You. Relying upon our flesh, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Our willpower and good intentions will only take us so far before out focus fades and our oomph fizzles. We ask for an outpouring of Your Holy Spirit and a harvest of the fruit Your Spirit. In the middle of seeing victory in partnering with You, help us to remain aware of our role and fight the temptation, in our excitement, to pull the controls out of Your hands to attempt to complete ourselves, thus attempting to steal a portion of Your glory for our own. Calm us to be still and know that You are God (Ps 46:10). We ask for forgiveness for Your work, blessings and answers, to which we have attributed authorship and fulfillment to another, or even, embarrassingly, to ourselves. Every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand (James 1:17). May any glory thrust upon us by the world be quickly transferred to whom it is due. Our shoulders are not designed to carry the weight of glory that belongs to You.
Father, we fall fully upon Your grace and mercy. We do not want to see another fruitless day or even one more fruitful day for which we have, in our arrogance, claimed credit. We ask for victory over our fallen natures and evidence of Your renewing work in our hearts and minds. Do a work within us and help us to respond in obedience, and then stand in awe and wonder at what You can and will do through our brokenness. In Jesus Name ❤️
Dear friend, are you struggling with the same issues over and over again? Sometimes in our eagerness to “help” God to help us we actually bring progress to a standstill, or our success is short-lived because we are crushed beneath the weight of glory that rightfully belongs to God. Why not start again with Him on the throne and sole recipient of praise? 💡
