A Prayer For When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Heavenly Father, we come before You.  When we were children, we considered what our life might look like at this point in our lives.  We realize now that very little resembles what we had imagined.  There is a temptation to give into discouragement for the weaknesses we continue to battle and the hopes and dreams that remain beyond our grasp.

We choose, again, to trust You in this journey.  We may not understand why things are the way they are, but we take courage in reminding ourselves that You do.  You do not ask us to suffer needlessly, but You have a purpose for every struggle we face. We shift our eyes away from our troubles, fears and sorrows and fix them firmly upon the author and finisher of our faith (Rom 15:4-5).  We offer our “whys” on the altar of sacrifice and ask instead to be blessed with “hows.”  Show us “how” to honor You in the through these things we do not understand.  We ask for light to illuminate our next step and for the breath of Your Spirit to inspire us to take it.

Be honored in both our tears of joy and tears of anguish as we lift a sacrifice of praise before You.  We lift up our hands and ask You to lift us, Father.  Carry us when our legs feel too weak for another step.  Lift us up to Your higher places reserved for those who trust You in seemingly impossible circumstances.  We praise You equally in our walking, our waiting and in our being lifted up out of difficulty (Ps 37:7).

Give us ears to hear the songs of worship of those who have gone before us, reminding us to put the full weight of our trust in You. And we ask that the sound of our worship, in good times and bad, will carry across the expanse of the valley below (Ps 23:4), instilling courage in the hearts of pilgrims who follow behind (1 Thess 5:11).  In Jesus Name ❤️

Dear friend, are you struggling with circumstances that make no sense?  It doesn’t require much faith to trust God when things are going our way.  True faith is exercised when things make no sense and we relinquish our search for “why” to throw the full weight of our trust upon Him, and ask Him to show us “how” to honor Him in a season that makes no sense.  Is it time to let go of your search for “why” in order to discover your “how?”  Let go and let Him carry you higher up.
