The Spirit of the Law & Humility

THE SPIRIT OF THE LAW & HUMILITY

“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”” – 1 Peter 5:5 NIV

Father, show us how to honor You in this day and how to respond to today’s challenges with a heart of mercy and grace.  Strengthen us to die to our flesh, and what it means to take up our cross and follow You.

Living in a world full of sin, it is common for the dust of this world to cling to us.  Remind us to daily come before You and be washed clean of all iniquity.  In our striving to remain pure, Spirit of God convict us when our heart becomes prideful, when we point to our own righteous instead of the righteousness of Christ and we forget the wretchedness from which we came.

Change our hearts so we will extend love at every turn and conduct ourselves with humility, gentleness and patience (Eph 4:2).  Help us to walk away from foolish arguments that bring quarrels and division (2 Tim 2:23-24).  In accordance with Romans 14, show us how to be true to the convictions of our heart from the guiding of Your Word and Holy Spirit, while extending grace to others.

Lord, shine Your light on our Pharisaical beliefs that cling to the letter of the law and death, instead of the spirit of the law and life (2 Cor 3:6).  Help us to adopt Your heart, that we will be faithful ministers of the new covenant, gracious, merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Ps 145:8). We ask for a work of Your Holy Spirit to bring unity within Your church, Lord.  Forgive us for judging the sins of others while we are complacent and tolerant of our own.  Inspire us to put on love that would bind us together (Col 3:14) and in humility, consider others more highly than ourselves (Phil 2:3).  In Jesus Name ❤️

Dear Friend, guard your heart against the temptation to cling to the letter of the law instead of the spirit of the law.  The letter of the law may have an appearance of holiness, but it leads to hardness of heart and pride — two things that are in direct opposition to the heart of God.  Why not ask the Father to remind you about your condition when He found you, that your rediscovered humility will soften your heart and increase your effectiveness for the kingdom? 💡
