Unclothed In Public

“LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.” – Isaiah 33:2

Father, for most of us we can’t imagine getting up in the morning and heading out into society without first brushing our teeth and washing our face.  We can’t imagine leaving the house without first emptying our bladder, taking a shower and exchanging our rumpled jammies for clothes that don’t look slept in.

For many of us we can’t imagine heading out the door or walking into our place of business without first having a bite of something to eat and at least a few sips of our morning coffee.  We need its warmth to ease us into a day of toil and it’s stimulating effects to lift our heavy eyelids and sullen mood.  We have grown accustomed to the side effects afforded us by our morning brew.

Unless there is an emergency, we can’t imagine not doing these things, but so often we go out the door without first feeding our spirit and drinking in the water of Your Word.  Thank You that there is no condemnation (Rom 8:1) with the revelation, but merely a realization that we do these physical things out of habit to make ourselves feel better, look better, more presentable and less offensive to those we will encounter.  We can see that what we take internally affects our mood and how we think and respond to the world around us.

While these physical things are so apparent, we can be oblivious to our spiritual condition, when we enter the world without first standing beneath the cleansing shower of repentance for yesterday’s sin (Eph 1:7) and washing our mouths clean of slander (Pro 10:18), gossip and grumbling.  We walk into the world dressed in the rumpled bedclothes of our own righteousness.  We rely upon our wits, still dulled by slumber, and our sharp, sarcastic tongue to navigate the waters of the day, because my we have gone into the world with a spirit and soul that are both hungry and thirsty.

Father, my dear friend reading this and I come before You. Help us to put first things first.  Help us to not postpone seeking You.  Show us how to put You first, and to be cleansed, prepared, dressed in the righteousness of Christ (1 Cor 1:30) and a garment of praise (Is 61:3).  Offer us a feast from Your Word to feed our spirits and souls, that we will receive the mind of Christ for our choices and the fragrance of Christ with which to draw the world.  Father, I pray that these things will become so much a part of who we are that we would no sooner greet the day without these preparations than go to the grocery store wearing only our underwear.

Lead us today, Father.  We pray we will enter the day freshly washed and dressed in His robe of righteousness.  And that our  spirits will be brimming over with the Word, our minds full of wisdom and our hearts full of love, compassion and courage.  In Jesus Name ❤️

Dear friend, have the physical aspects of life pulled your attention away from maintaining a healthy spirit?  Today is the day to start again!  Be washed, clothed and fed.  Don’t go out in public without being fully dressed!  💡
