It’s Morning, Sweetheart!
“IT’S MORNING, SWEETHEART!”
“I will praise the Lord no matter what happens. I will constantly speak of his glories and grace. I will boast of all his kindness to me. Let all who are discouraged take heart. Let us praise the Lord together and exalt his name.” – Psalm 34:1-3
It is very early. I look out the window. Other than the distant points of starlight, the sky is awash in blackness. I hear our little dog beginning to stir in his bed, and I whisper, “It’s nighttime, sweetheart. Go to sleep.” He settles back in and let’s out a relaxing sigh as he drifts off.
The Father whispers to my heart, “It’s not nighttime. It’s morning, sweetheart.” I glance over at the clock and it’s 4:43 AM. Seeing darkness outside, I had assumed it was still night. But indeed, midnight has passed. It is a new day.
Sunrise will be in under an hour, when the sun will triumphantly begin marching its way over the horizon, and my expectation of the appearance of morning and the true definition will once again match.
It feels this way so often in life. Circumstances appear dark and we call it night. But from the Father’s perfect perspective, He sees the approaching sun on it’s faithful path on final approach to dawn. And while the landscape remains in darkness, He declares it morning.
The Father, knows what weighs on our hearts, those things that bring restlessness to our sleep and have us staring out the window into the inky blackness while our neighbors are fast asleep. He intimately knows our disappointments and dismay, the depths of our grief, pain, anxiety and fear.
His heart felt such overwhelming compassion that He stopped at nothing to rescue us. He chose to suffer the unthinkable, in order to provide us with a way of escape.
“For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” - Hebrews 4:15.
He calls us to be like Him, to “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” - Romans 12:15.
His Word says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18.
My little dog trusts me. When I tell him it is night, he lets out a relaxing sigh of relief and sinks back into his dreams. The Father, has declared it morning — the genesis of a new day. We may look out the window and see only darkness, but the wise among us will take Him at His word. Let’s choose to take a deep breath and sink into the peace that comes from trusting our Master.
Father, we come before You. Only You know how many minutes will pass before our eyes will see the relief of first morning light. If You have pronounced it a new day, bless us with a measure of faith to speak into the darkness and declare that it is morning. Help us to shake off the heavy sleep of night, to be bathed in Your presence and then dressed in a garment of praise.
In your presence, meet our needs, fill up our cup of joy and overflow our fountain of wisdom. Renew our minds by Your Word, touch our brokenness and restore our hope. We ask You for so much, Father, because we realize that apart from You we can do absolutely nothing. (John 15:5).
Suddenly my ears detect the first cheerful chirps of the morning birds, and my eyes are drawn to the window where I see a gentle light glowing behind our back hill. Sunrise has indeed come, right on time. Your Word says that Your mercies are new every morning. We receive them with eager and open arms. Great is Your faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:23). In Jesus’ Name ❤️
Dear friend, many times in scripture the phrase, “and it came to pass” can be found. The phrase is there to remind us that seasons change and every night is followed by yet another morning. If the Father speaks to your spirit that morning has come, don’t wait for first light to give Him praise! Darkness will soon be extinguished by the brilliance of morning. Hold on to Him. His mercy is on its way! 💡
