A Few Choice Words
A FEW CHOICE WORDS
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:6
No, I don’t hear audible voices, but the Lord does, on occasion, speak to me in my dreams. Apparently, it’s the only time I stop talking long enough for Him to get in a word edgewise.
This morning, He plunked a simple thought in my mind about “choice words.” “Choice words” is often a euphemism for swearing or verbally chastising a person. In actuality, the term just means, “a few carefully chosen words.”
I feel God gave me an assignment to include in every conversation, a few choice words. Here are a few examples of types of choice words to slip into conversation.
BE KIND
The vast majority of people you will encounter in your day are going through something difficult that You known nothing about. Spread on a little kindness to sweeten their day. You can’t help to get some smeared in yourself at the same time. ““The LORD bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier:” – Ruth 10:3
ENCOURAGE
When we are weary in well doing and on the brink of falling apart, sometimes all it takes is a brief word of encouragement to fresh wind back in our sails. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
DISPENSE HOPE
Struggling with discouragement, we often become blind to the hope that stares us in the eye. Genuine reminders of hope, from a caring and tender heart, can be a soothing balm for a rash of hopelessness. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
COMPLIMENT
Disingenuous compliments will cause a person to bristle, but kindness and acknowledgement of an accomplishment or character are like a tall glass of cold water on a hot day. “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” – Romans 15:2
INSPIRE
Inspiring words can bring resurrection to purpose and an invigorating change of course in a life. Once they know what we see, sometimes they begin to see it for themselves. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,” – Hebrews 10:24
BLESS
People are hungry for blessing and hope. Look for opportunities to bless. “The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.” – Proverbs 11:25
POINT
Through every encounter we are wise to remember that our words will point the listener in a direction. Point faithfully to Jesus. “but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:”
1 Peter 3:15
Lord, we come before You. Teach us to be succinct, mindful and selective in the words we choose. May we be found to be wise men and women whose counsel is sought by many.
May our few choice words be kind, encouraging, hopeful, complimentary, inspiring and full of blessing. And may they always point to Jesus. In Jesus’ Name ❤️
Beloved, do you feel a nudge in your spirit to be more careful in your choice of words? Our words can speak life or death, blessings or curses. Why not ask the Father to help you to partner with Him in speaking life and blessing? Then go out into your world and give them a few choice words! I invite you to join me in my assignment. Are you in?
