From The Tip of The Needle

FROM THE TIP OF THE NEEDLE

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.” – Proverbs 3:3.

I grew up a child of the 60’s and 70’s. The style of the day was “flip” hairdos, Beatle cuts, Nehru jackets, go-go boots and copious amounts of hairspray and polyester.

I remember sitting in my bedroom and listening to music on my record player.  I would pick up the arm and set it down lightly into the groove on the record to hear the sounds of the Beatles, the Beach Boys or the Supremes.

Our hearts are like a vinyl disc. Both good and bad happen in life. The impression of life-altering, emotion-soaked events tend to leave the deepest grooves in our hearts.  Each time a similar event takes place, the needle, goes back down into the groove, playing the same message.

The trouble is that not everything recorded on our hearts is beneficial or even true.  Damaging, life-altering messages can be embossed on our hearts—wounds, lies, misunderstanding and bitterness.  Curses and bad habits touch on our record as well, and cause us to repeat damaging behaviors in an attempt to cope.

Like a broken record, we feel stuck in the same repeating loop, going around in circles without a way to make it stop.

What can silence the voices of the past?

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” – Psalm‬ ‭119:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Word of God is like wax that we can apply to the record of our heart. Layer by layer, it slowly fills in the grooves, building up, until the voices become silent.  Then the Lord’s truth can come down and write a new song—a new message upon our hearts—truth and life that overrides lies and death.

Father, we come before You with lives that have been scarred, pitted and embossed by the past.  We have been branded, bound and restrained by lies that have kept us from taking hold of the future and hope You planned for us.

Bless us with a hunger for Your Word.  Draw us to healing passages that, like wax, will fill in the grooves, as we apply it over and over to silence the lies and curses of the past. Then write Your Word on our hearts.

May it be unto us as written by the prophet Isaiah, “bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” – Isaiah 61:3

As it says in Zephaniah 3:17, “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."

Give us ears to hear the song You sing over us, Father.  May THAT be the song that plays as life’s needle touches our hearts.

Father, thank You that our sins are covered by the blood.  Now help us to apply Your Word to renew our hearts and minds.  We ask that when life’s needle comes to touch our hearts, that the songs played will be songs of hope, peace, freedom and deliverance, replacing the dirge of yesterday with joyful songs of praise.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️

Beloved, are you stuck in an unhealthy behavior? If so, it’s time to begin applying the truth of the Word of God to past hurts, disappointments and failures. Through daily application, the painful past can be silenced, and replaced with a song of future and hope. 💡
