A Prayer For The Disappointed & Betrayed
A PRAYER FOR THE DISCOURAGED & BETRAYED
“While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”” – Luke 22:47-48 NIV
What a woeful thing to betray the Son of God! And Jesus saw it coming.
I have had conversations with those who have espoused that Jesus was weak to not have stopped a known betrayal from happening, and for having remained silent when questioned by authorities about His deity.
The direct opposite is true. He knew His role was that of Savior. It was unsurpassed strength that caused Him to willingly forfeit His life in order to fulfill His purpose. He endured the pain, suffering, humiliation and brutality of abandonment and betrayal, so He could know every pain and temptation that we face, and respond selflessly and sinlessly to win our freedom.
Father, we are so grateful that You are not unmoved by our pain. We are not held at arms length, but close to Your heart. Thank you that the work of the cross parts the waters of disappointment and betrayal, that we can walk on dry ground from the captivity of bitterness to the blessed shore of forgiveness and freedom.
Lord, as we receive these wounds in our lives, we ask that as we have been faithful to fill our spirit with the Word in good times, that its truths will rise up within us for such a time as this.
Put Your healing balm on the wounds in our hearts. Give us a gift of faith and strength to forgive. Guide us and remove the stones from our path, that we will walk the paths of righteousness with sure steps. Lord, we need wisdom and the mind and heart of Christ. We don’t want to respond in our flesh, but according to the leading of Your Spirit.
As we offer a sacrifice of worship, draw us into Your secret place, where we will find our hope, peace and joy restored (Ps 16:11). When we feel too weak to go another step, help us to lean hard (Pro 3:5-6) upon You.
In this season of testing, may our character speak louder than our words. Put a governor on our lips (1 Pet 3:10), that we will speak blessings instead of curses, and exchange a desire for vengeance for a burden that is light.
Lord, deafen our ears to the counsel of fools (Pro 12:15), but give us ears to hear Your still, small voice.
And as we follow Your leading for every step, may we look back on today and count ourselves as greatly blessed. Because we love You, may what the enemy intended for evil be transformed into miraculous good (Gen 50:20)—changing our greatest battle into our most triumphant victory.
Thank You that You go before us and You are ALREADY working all things together for our good (Rom 8:28). Help us to stand firm on Your truth as pillars of strength, that our eyes may see the salvation of the Lord (Ex 14:13). In Jesus’ Name ❤️
