A Walk In The Garden

A WALK IN THE GARDEN

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.” - Genesis 3:8

Adam and Eve heard the Lord walking in the garden that day.  It was not something that took them by surprise.  They were familiar with the sound of His footsteps as He approached to spend time with them in the beauty of the garden.

My heart jumps in my chest at the thought of seeing the Lord face to face.  One day we will finally see Him and the splendor of all things made new.  What a glorious day that will be!

So often when there are burdens on our hearts, we long to have audience with the Lord—to receive His wise counsel and healing touch.  What a wonder it is to consider that He is mindful of us.  And a greater wonder yet, that He doesn’t merely endure our visits, but He desires time with us.  He looks forward to the time spent together.

The truth is that at this precise moment, we have His attention.  His ear is tuned to hear our voices.  We are His beloved and the apple of His eye (Zech 2:8).  He comes, even now, to spend time with us.

Lord, tune the ears of our spirits to hear You walking in the garden.  What a joy to be loved by You.  Thank You that You see us as spotless and pure.  Even if we have eaten of forbidden fruit, there is no need to hide.  Our sin-stained lips and fingers have been washed clean by the Lamb.

There is no fear of condemnation or rejection.  You approach bearing gifts of love.  Your arms extend to receive our burdens, and bend Your knee to wash the dust from our feet.  Then they are shod with beauty, good news and peace.  You speak words of great tenderness that melt away all sorrow, and cover us with a rich robe of righteousness, perfumed with the fragrance of grace.  Upon our hand You place a ring of authority, as a sign of Your commitment and devotion.

Lord, may our thoughts be renewed today, remembering the depths of Your love and affection.  May our words be lavish in grace as we walk in the company of the King, secure in the joy of belonging and being loved.  Walk with us today, Lord.  We long to walk with You in the garden.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
