Taking Hold of The Eternal

TAKING HOLD OF THE ETERNAL

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!”– Revelation 21:5a NIV

Don’t you just love that “new car” smell? What fun it is to slide behind the wheel of a brand new car!  Shiny and clean without the smell of french fries or soccer feet, a new car glides rather than runs down the road.

While I love a new car, I must admit that I have an affection for my old car.  I dread the day I will have to let it go.  It has faithfully served me and I have cared gently for it, but I see signs that it is closer to the end of its days than the beginning.

The same is true about everything on this planet.  Everything and everyone will eventually pass away.  There remains a precious HOPE, however. When we are found in Him, we can never be lost in death.

“...I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭NIV‬

When life ends here, our best life begins with the Lord.  The good here is a mere glimmer of what is to come, and will be replaced with something so exceedingly better and more, that it is beyond our comprehension.

I won’t discount the pain, beloved.  There can be deep grief in releasing what we love.  It can tear away pieces of our soul.  But passing away is the necessary first step in the fulfillment of God’s promise.  He will, indeed, make all things new, but old things must first pass away.

What we love here will be made again—this time incorruptible, eternal and beyond our wildest imagination.  Until then, the Father bids us to come and be comforted in His presence.

Father, letting go can be so painful. Hold us in our tears and sadness.  Touch our eyes to see beyond the pain to set our anchor of HOPE in our future joy.  We purpose to fix “our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.– Hebrews 12:2 NIV

Lord, we fix our eyes on You.  May Your joy be our strength.  We trust in Your goodness and mercy to both give and take away.  So, we relax our hands to gently cup what is fleeting, that one day they may joyfully take hold of the eternal.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
