Cleaning House

CLEANING HOUSE

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

We are in a mandated shelter at home.  Unable to go into town except for emergencies, I am making use of the time cleaning house.

This morning as I was lying in bed, I felt a nudge in my heart from the Lord.

“It’s time to clean house.”

It’s time to clean out the closets of my heart.  It is important to me to have a clean house when guests come.  How much more important it is to have a clean heart when the Lord comes.

Passover in coming.  During the first Passover, Egypt was inflicted by plagues so Pharaoh would release the Israelites from slavery.

At the end of Passover, the Israelites were to put the blood of a lamb on the doorposts of their homes, as a sign to the spirit of the Lord to pass over them from the final plague—the death of the first born in each household.

That evening they were to roast the lamb, go into their homes and close the door until morning. When they ate the lamb:

“This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.” – Exodus‬ ‭12:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I can only imagine their emotions that night—excitement, fear, reverence.  No doubt they were cleaning spiritual house in preparation for an unprecedented move of God.

As we are behind closed doors and Passover season is approaching (sunset April 8 to nightfall April 16), let’s clean our spiritual houses.  Let’s sweep out the corners, take out the trash and be ready for a visitation from the Lord.

Father, in Your mercy show us our sin.  Help us to put it outside and close the door.  Wash us clean again.  Remove our affection for our earthy home, replacing it with a longing for our eternal home.  Make us ready for Your move.  Show us Your glory, Lord!  Pass over us by the blood of the Lamb and lead us to the Promised Land!  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
