Doorposts of The Heart

DOORPOSTS OF THE HEART

“Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.” – Exodus‬ ‭12:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Things are heating up in our world.  A while back, I came across a photograph of a road sign indicating a sharp right turn ahead.  The sign was riddled with gunshot holes, and beneath the image was a caption which read, “Keep right and get shot.”  Thinly-veiled threats were attempting to intimidate and silence those who held a difference of opinion.

Intimidation is nothing new.  During  Passover, the children of Israel were instructed to put the blood of an unblemished lamb on the outside of their doorposts and lintel, as a declaration of faith that the Lord would protect and deliver them.

It required faith and great courage, as their actions could have been punishable by stoning (Ex 8:26).  It was in that declaration of faith, by the application of blood, that each household was passed over and spared from death. This foreshadowed salvation that would come by way of applying the blood of Jesus to the doorposts of our hearts.

Today we find ourselves facing threats and criticism for our faith.  The powers of darkness seek to similarly silence our voices that offer hope to a lost generation.

Father, help us to not draw silent, succumbing to threats and intimidation.  Strengthen us to shine in the darkness.

Empower us to remain above reproach, and to answer harsh words with love and the seasoned Word of God.  Teach us to rely upon Your Spirit and not our flesh, so we will be wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. Breathe courage into our souls, that we would not hide the saving blood of Jesus behind closed doors, but to bravely apply it to the doorposts of our hearts and homes, that our families and all who take refuge there would be saved.

Lord, fill us with Your Spirit and overshadow us with protection and peace. And as the world around us becomes darker, may we shine more brightly, drawing those in the darkness to the salvation that lies beyond the doorposts covered with blood.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
