The Hem of His Garment
THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT
By: Julie Souza Bradley Lilly
For twenty years I played the role of the woman who was healed from the issue of blood, in our church drama productions. Considered unclean, she timidly worked her way among the crowds. From bended knee she stretched out her arm to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, and was healed. Jesus felt power leave Him and said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” – Luke 8:48 NIV
The anointing oil that was poured out upon Jesus in Mark 14:3-9, poured over His head, and flowed down His beard to collect in the hem of His garment. It is there, in the lowest place, that the greatest anointing can be found. Christ Jesus, our anointed One, calls us to come, bow down, touch the hem of His garment and find, not only salvation, but our purpose and receive an anointing from His fullness.
Beloved, in this season of uncertainties do you find yourself desperate—desperate for hope, peace or rescue—a reassuring whisper from God that He is with you? Take hold of the hem of His garment. Desperation for Him is the most hopeful of places. Allow His anointing to touch your hands, to empower you to touch the hurting with compassion, your feet, to walk where fear would not allow you to tread, your heart to heal your wounds of yesterday, and your mind, to imagine God-breathed dreams infused with hope.
You have not been abandoned, beloved. You have come to this lowly place to meet with Him. He, too, took the lowest place. It is the place of miracles. Bow before Him. It’s okay to cry. Wash His nail-scarred feet with your tears. Then let Him reach down with hands of great mercy to lift you up, that the rest of your life might be the best of all.
Father, thank You for hope that saturates lowest places. Help us to reach for You there, and find ourselves healed and lifted up. In Jesus’ Name ❤️
