Look For The Rainbow

LOOK FOR THE RAINBOW

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” – Matthew 5:45 NIV

Last spring, while running errands, I was surprised by unexpected rain.  Without an umbrella, I began to grumble under my breath, when the Lord interrupted. He whispered to my heart that the rain may not be convenient, but it was a blessing from Him, providing in advance for our water needs during the summer.  His beautiful rainbow reassured me of His faithfulness in both sunshine and rain.

Apart from creation, every miracle in the Bible began as a problem.  It might be tempting to think that God provides miracles to receive glory—as if our thankful worship strokes a fragile ego.  But unlike us, God is not lacking in self esteem.  He does not require our approval or adoration to feel better about Himself. He is perfect, lacking nothing.

I have misjudged His intentions many times, ascribing the same selfish motivations to God that reside within me.  Blessings often come dressed as trouble. He allows our troubles not to torment us, but to teach us to run to Him to be unburdened—so we can know rest from our weariness and the peace in troubled times that only comes from Him.

We live in a fallen world. What the enemy intends for evil, our loving Father turns into blessing.  When we trust Him, trouble is the open door through which miracles walk in.

Beloved, is it raining trouble in your world?  Run to Him!  Trust Him.  Give Him your burdens. The same God who puts His bow in the heavens after the rain is the same God who will be faithful to you, too.

Father, forgive us for misjudging You.  We ask for new eyes with which to see our troubles and for a gift of faith to trust You for what we cannot see.  Rain falls on every life. May we welcome that familiar tap on our window as a friend (Jas 1:2 PHILLIPS), lift our faces toward heaven and look expectantly for Your rainbow.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
