Wings As Eagles

WINGS AS EAGLES

By: Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
‭‭– Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

My favorite spot to vacation is Alaska.  And one of my favorite activities while there is to use my binoculars to scan the nearby trees for bald eagle.  Their bodies blend in with the trees, but their heads are clearly visible.  They look like so many ping pong balls dotting the trees.  They are such majestic and graceful animals, with powerful wings that lift them to soar among the clouds.

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t born with wings.  So, it has always perplexed me how a terrestrial creation, as myself, could possibly fly without them.

The Lord led me to my concordance.  I found that the word, “WAIT,” does not mean to simply bide our time.  Wait means to “gather, bind together, expect, look, wait patiently.”  Waiting is to cling to Him and bind our hearts with His, patiently waiting and expectantly looking for Him to move.

“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” – Psalm 91:4

Wings, in scripture, refers to the sleeves of His garment.  As we cling to Him, He wraps His arms around us.  By His power we rise.  There, gliding in the heavens, we can look down upon our circumstances and see things from Heaven’s perspective.

Beloved, are you waiting to rise above your circumstances?  Cling to Him.  Bind your heart with His and wait patiently and expectantly.  Like a hen covers her chicks beneath her feathers, let Him embrace you with His wings.

Father, as we cling to You.  We wait in hopeful expectation to rise and soar.  Show us what You see, so whether we land on a mountaintop or in the valley, we can have hope and know peace.  We wait on You.  May we soar beneath Your wings as eagles!  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
