Living In Grace

LIVING IN GRACE

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Have you ever wondered why God’s grace feels insufficient?  I am not talking about the grace that saves us, but rather the grace needed to complete the tasks on our plates.

Imagine a buffet line.  Here God puts healthy portions on our plates, but seeing what He has given us, we add extra and then wonder why we are uncomfortable later.   Sound familiar?

When we say "grace" before a meal, we are asking for God’s blessing.  Even though we pray, if extra food was not in His plan, our bodies may lack the extra "grace" necessary to digest and utilize those foods, leaving us miserable.  Praying over a meal won't change something that is outside of His will into something within it, any more than asking for His blessing before an extramarital affair makes it holy, blessed and ordained by God.

So it is with many things in our lives.  The Lord gives us assignments, but we also scribble assignments into the margin that we don't have His grace to complete.

God provides ample grace to cover every sin, but our supplies of energy, money, time and strength are purposefully limited, to spare us from the harm we would experience were we to have unlimited amounts of them.

Why do be take on too much?  It comes down to lack of faith in God’s ability to satisfy us with less, or His power to miraculously provide for our needs.  The peace and comfort we desire are found inside of God’s boundaries, not outside.

Heavenly Father, strengthen our faith.  The boundary lines set for us fall in pleasant places (Ps 16:6). Strengthen us to fight the temptation to take on what You have not given us the grace to handle, so we will have the strength to complete our true assignments with excellence.  And open our eyes to the wisdom, rest and peace found when we live within Your grace. In Jesus’ Name ❤️
