The High Road

THE HIGH ROAD

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We don’t have to live on this planet very long to see how taking matters into our own hands and using human wisdom can lead to disaster.  One act of evil is countered with another, initiating a long line of falling dominos—each one larger than the last.  It leaves disaster in its wake.  And what appeared to be wisdom at first, leaves everyone in pain and rubbing their wounds.

Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

We can’t put an end to evil with more of the same, any more than continuing to dig will extract us from a pit.  We need the antidote.  Just as light dispels darkness, peace dispels chaos and love dispels hate.

Beloved, we need divine intervention, and to invite the God of love, the Great Physician and Prince of Peace in to return to where He has been banished to restore love, sanity and peace.

Father, come with healing power!  Have mercy on us, Lord!  Remove the warping lenses from our vision that cause us to perceive foolishness as wisdom and evil as good. Silence the fighting and shouting, so we can think clearly, regain our sanity and see that our enemy is not our brother, but the same deceiver that slithered in the Garden.

Teach us to do battle on our knees, by putting on Your armor and taking up our sword and shield.  In faith, we lift the horn of our salvation to our lips, calling upon our God who is able.  We pour oil out upon the wounds of our brothers.

Lord, help us to walk in humility with You and our fellow man.  Guide us in ways beyond our comprehension.  And in Your mercy, take us to the high road that leads to peace.  In Jesus’ Name ❤️
