The Secret of The Birds

THE SECRET OF THE BIRDS

By:  Julie Souza Bradley Lilly

“Praise the Lord from the earth, Sea monsters and all deep sea creatures; Beasts and all cattle; Creeping things and winged birds.” - Psalm 148:7, 10.

Morning has broken and the choir of birds outside my window is singing their hearts out.  Birds may not be considered to be intelligent, yet their response to God in hardship could teach us a few things.

We humans grumble to God about so much, but the birds praise their creator in severe heat and bitter cold.  They may have nests and the shade of trees, but they don’t have the many comforts we enjoy, yet they praise Him.  They know a secret:  God is enthroned upon our praises.  When our hearts are full of worship, He takes His rightful place and brings with Him joy and peace.

Let’s take a lesson from the birds.  Their trust in their maker to provide for their needs, even in the face of harsh seasons, calls out to our faith.  It encourages us to trust in, and worship Almighty God in our discomfort, and thereby discover His blessings.

We miss so much joy to postpone our praise until everything is perfect and complete.  There is joy to be had in the struggle when we worship Him through it.

Father, open our eyes to see our blessings, even in hardship, so our hearts may respond with wisdom.  We offer what we have before You. We ask You to multiply it, as You did the loaves and fishes, and to miraculously transform it into what we need, as You did at the wedding in Cana.  Teach us to be content, no matter the circumstance (Philippians 4:11), so we won’t postpone Your praise.

Lord, where our spirits are dry from testing, may we prime the pump of gratefulness.  May we exchange our heaviness and grumbling for praise and the peace and joy of Your presence.

In little and in much, in heat and cold, in pleasure and in pain, help us to find our faith and voice of worship.  And when we consider our blessings, may gratefulness well up in our souls.  And in wisdom, may the praise from our lips surpass that of the birds.   In Jesus’ Name ❤️
